Supercard of Honor was originally scheduled for May 2nd in Atlantic City, NJ. The months of March and April carried on, with no matches having been announced for the PPV with under two weeks to go. Then, on April 22nd, it was announced that Supercard of Honor would be moved to July 11th and to Arlington, TX, the night before AEW All In Texas. So, this post, initially intended to be a “Road to Supercard of Honor” post, now simply covers all the title matches from March and April of 2025.
ROH Women’s World Championship
Athena vs. La Catalina
ROH on HonorClub #106 – Oceanside, CA – 3.6.2025
Athena has been the champion since 12.10.2022 and this is her twenty-eighth defense. All it took for Catalina to earn this title shot was to defeat Lady Frost last week, which was also Catalina’s ROH debut. Athena mocks Catalina’s dance moves, and Catalina makes her pay with a pair of shotgun dropkicks. Athena halts her dive attempt with a gamengiri from the floor, and then pulls Catalina down into a swinging slam on the floor. Athena gets caught up in the jeers from the crowd as she repeatedly forearms Catalina. It allows for Catalina to retaliate with a forearm strike of her own. Athena side steps a hip attack and superkicks Catalina as she is seated on the middle rope, and then a diving forearm strike gets Athena a two count. Athena targets Catalina’s hurt back with a bow and arrow stretch. Catalina cuts off a front flip clothesline from Athena with a Busaiku Knee. Her third shotgun dropkick of the match comes off of the top turnbuckle. Catalina hip attacks Athena before dropping her out of an electric chair drop for two. Athena grabs the ropes when Catalina grabs a waistlock and pulls Catalina’s throat into the ropes. Athena powerbombs Catalina twice. Catalina stacks up Athena to escape both a triangle choke and a crossface, pouncing Athena when they get to their feet. Catalina gets two with a hip attack on the second rope and a Pedigree. Athena escapes Catalina’s second electric chair drop. She tags her with a running forearm strike in the corner and hits the O-Face for the pin at 9:05. Athena offers a hand to Catalina and raises her arm to the crowd after the bell, only to knock her down with a headbutt and run away. A very fun and surprisingly competitive match. Catalina is straight up good and I am glad they made her look formidable in a match where the winner was never in doubt. Let’s figure out something substantial to do with Athena, please. ***
Bandido and his younger brother, Gravity, defeated The Infantry on ROH TV three days prior to the AEW Revolution PPV. Earlier in the episode, ROH World Champion Chris Jericho conveyed to his Learning Tree students Big Bill and Bryan Keith how disappointed he has been with them, stating that they need to start living up to the potential and expectations he has for them. Bill and Keith both took that to heart, attacking Bandido and Gravity after the match, including holding them for Jericho to clobber with his World Title. It was announced two days later that Gravity would seek revenge against Jericho for this attack in an ROH World Title match on the Revolution Zero Hour. Gravity and Bandido’s mother and sister were in the crowd for the bout.
That title match never happened. Jericho and the Learning Tree assaulted Gravity before the bell rang. Bandido ran out to help his brother, but the numbers game got to be too much and Bandido was beaten down. Big Bill held Bandido by his hair, forcing him to watch Jericho attack his brother. To the horror of his whole family, Jericho unmasked Gravity and knocked him out with the Molasses Elbow. Fortunately for Gravity, his long hair helped keep his face covered and identity hidden. Jericho threatened to hit their mother and sister, who had come into the ring to check on Gravity, kicked Bandido in the face, and held Gravity’s mask up to the audience before leaving. This was a great segment – way better and more effective than a match would have been. All of this makes Jericho defeating Bandido clean last month all the more perplexing, but this basically resets things anyway.
ROH World Television Championship
Komander vs. Dark Panther
ROH on HonorClub #108 – Rosenberg, TX – 3.20.2025
Komander has been champion since 12.20.2024 and this is his fifth defense. Panther comes into this match with victories over Gravity and Aaron Solo, as well as a six man tag victory with his father Blue Panther and brother Blue Panther Jr. Komander outpaced Panther, frustrating and tiring the challenger. Panther offered a handshake to the champion, baiting him into a kick to the stomach. Komander looked to speed things up again, only to get shut down with a dropkick from Panther after Komander attempted a sunset flip. Panther attacks Komander’s left arm and leg. When he misses a corner attack and sends himself crashing to the floor, Komander looks to pounce. Panther however jumps up on the apron and catches Komander. He chops him into and then out of a tree of woe position. Panther full body stretches Komander over his shoulder and then in a surfboard. When Panther attempts a monkey flip, Komander backdrops him to the floor. He then lands a springboard Asai moonsault. Back in the ring, he goes for a moonsault, but Panther gets his feet up to block. Panther hops to the second rope and drills Komander with a dropkick. Panther suicide dives onto Komander. Once again, Komander blocks a monkey flip by dumping Panther to the floor. He tightrope walks across the entire ring and lands a floating moonsault to the floor. Cielito Lindo gets Komander the pin at 11:41. This had an outline of a story (Panther’s size vs. Komander’s speed), but it didn’t feel cohesive. It definitely felt like they got a cue to go home or something because the match ended abruptly, despite going nearly 12 minutes. It was fun to watch and the crowd was into it, so ultimately it was successful, just not as good as I hoped. **¾
ROH Pure Championship
Lee Moriarty vs. AR Fox
ROH on HonorClub #110 – Milwaukee, WI – 4.3.2025
Moriarty has been champion since 7.26.2024 and this is his sixth defense. Fox’s only claim to this match was going to a 10 minute draw with Kevin Knight two weeks prior. Otherwise, he’s been beaten like a drum in AEW since 2025 began, including a Trios title loss. The Pure Rules are as follows:
*The competitors are to obey the “Code of Honor”, shaking one another’s hand before and after the match.
*The title can change hands on a count out or disqualification in addition to a pinfall.
*Each wrestler has 3 rope breaks to stop submission holds and pinfalls. After a wrestler has used all 3 of their rope breaks, submission and pin attempts on or under the ropes by the opponent are considered legal.
*Closed-fist punches to the face are not permitted. Overhanded slaps and chops to the face are permitted. Punches to the rest of the body are permitted, excluding low blows. The first use of a closed fist results in a warning. The second use of a closed fist to the face results in a disqualification.
*The judges for this match are not mentioned.
Less than a minute in, Fox uses his first rope break to prevent Moriarty from providing an armbar. Fox mule kicks Moriarty and takes him down with a springback cutter, and then takes down Moriarty with a springboard rope-assisted Russian leg sweep for two. Fox rolls Moriarty into a crossface, and the champion uses his first rope break to escape. Fox blocks a punch and cracks Moriarty with a closed fist, which earns him a warning by referee Mike Posey. Moriarty pulls Fox down to the mat, stomping Fox’s shoulder into the mat upon landing. Fox scurries to the ropes, using his second break to escape a modified kimura lock. Fox leg sweeps Moriarty on the ring apron. Fox busts out a front flip into a double stump to Moriarty on the apron and then lands a somersault senton. Moriarty kicks out of Air Fox back in the ring. Moriarty maneuvers out of a brainbuster and kicks Fox’s shoulders. Moriarty turns Fang! into a crossface, resulting in Fox using his third and final rope break. Fox out of desperation delivers a brainbuster. He traps Moriarty in the ropes and brings him out with a springboard Destroyer. Moriarty uses his second rope break to avoid being pinned. Moriarty evades a 450 splash but is caught with a basement Ace Crusher. Moriarty blocks Lo Mein Pain and pushes Fox to the apron. Moriarty locks Fox in a crossface chicken wing in the ropes, and since Fox’s rope breaks are gone, it is legal. Fox taps out at 8:42. Putting aside Fox’s questionable eligibility for this title shot, this was really good. He gave Moriarty a much different type of match than his other defenses. With Moriarty taking away Fox’s rope breaks, it felt natural when he caught Fox in a submission in the ropes given how much Fox uses them for his offense. ***
After defeating Johnny TV on the March 23rd Collision, Bandido called out Chris Jericho, demanding he come to the ring with his brother Gravity’s mask in hand. Jericho and his Learning Tree made their way to the ring with the mask, as requested. Jericho says he won’t give Bandido his brother’s mask back, because he wants Bandido to remember the humiliation Gravity felt that night. Jericho also says the only thing more disrespectful than taking someone’s mask is putting that mask on. He then puts Gravity’s mask on and asks Bandido if he is just going to cry like his mother did. Bandido then hits Jericho with a haymaker. He fights off the Learning Tree and grabs the Gravity mask off of Jericho’s face.
On the following episode of Dynamite, Jericho stated that he wants to take Bandido’s mask, just like he took Gravity’s, so Bandido could feel the same embarrassment that his brother did. Jericho believes that Bandido would be willing to risk his identity for another shot at the ROH World Title, and challenges Bandido to a Title vs. Mask match. Tony Khan informed us on X the everything app that Bandido had accepted
ROH World Championship vs. Mask
Chris Jericho vs. Bandido
AEW Dynasty – Philadelphia, PA – 4.6.2025
Jericho has been champion since 10.23.2024 and this is his fourth defense. If Bandido loses the match, he must unmask. Bandido and Gravity’s mother and sister are once again in attendance. The AEW audience seems universally tired of Jericho, and thus treated this match as a rest break, and fair enough, these shows are marathons. They didn’t do much to get the people back into it. Jericho powerbombing Bandido to the floor got a big reaction but that’s about it. They also did some things that just didn’t fit the “personal rivalry” this had become, like them agreeing to a back-to-back shootout. Bryan Keith tried to interfere but Gravity stopped him. While the referees were busy dealing with them, Jericho hit Bandido with a baseball bat, and he pinned Bandido. But wait! Bandido’s family points out to referee Aubrey Edwards, who had been breaking up Keith and Gravity, that Jericho had used the baseball bat. Referee Bryce Remsburg demands a restart, much to the delight of his family. As Jericho grabs Bandido’s sisters ears, she slaps him in the face. Bandido pump kicks Jericho, hits him with the X-Knee, and pulls off the 21 Plex for the pin at 18:12 to win the ROH World Title. A big mess and far and away the worst of their three matches. At least the title is off of Jericho, again, hopefully for good, unless they try again to get ROH on TV. I look forward to AEW consistently utilizing first hand eye witness accounts to reverse victories obtained through nefarious means going forward. *½
Christian Cage returned to AEW after a month-long absence on the April 16th episode of Dynamite. He told Nick Wayne he was impressed with what he did while he was away, and as a reward, he got Wayne a spot in New Japan’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament. However, Christian plans to keep Nick busy until then so he can build momentum, starting with a rematch against Komander for the ROH TV Title on tomorrow’s special Thursday episode of Collision. Christian also mentions that the Patriarchy will not be in Wayne’s corner. How does Christian have the authority to do these things? Don’t ask questions, just consume product.
ROH World Television Championship
Komander vs. Nick Wayne
AEW Collision #89; Spring BreakThru Part 2 – Boston, MA – 4.17.2025
Komander has been champion since 12.20.2024 and this is his sixth defense. Alex Abrahantes is in Komander’s corner. Wayne spits at Komander instead of shaking his hand, so Komander dropkicks him in response. Wayne dodges a dive onto the entrance ramp and snaps the back of Komander’s neck against the top rope. Wayne also shoves Komander to the floor as Komander attempts another springboard maneuver. During picture-in-picture, Wayne attacks Komander’s neck back in the ring as the fans taunt Wayne with a “where’s your Mommy?” chant. Komander manages to reverse an Irish whip into a springboard double wrist drag. Komander also catches Wayne with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Komander springboard enzuigiri’s Wayne to the entrance ramp and lands a somersault senton over the top rope and onto him. Wayne is able to fight his way off of Komander’s shoulders back in the ring and send him crashing face first into the middle turnbuckle. Komander evades a kick and shoves Wayne to the corner. He then spikes Wayne with a reverse Frankensteiner for two. Wayne catches Komander’s springboard offense and gives him a dragon suplex. Wayne lands a kick to the head. Komander tiger feint kicks Wayne’s legs out to block Wayne’s World, gives Wayne a Destroyer, and then follows Wayne to the floor with a step-up moonsault to the floor. Wayne upkicks Komander right in the face to block Cielito Lindo and gives him a roundhouse kick to the head. Wayne then pins Komander with the Prodigy Plex to win the TV title at 11:00, becoming the youngest singles champion in ROH history at 19 years old. That match was really hot from the end of picture-in-picture to the climax. Komander’s string of offense had the crowd going wild. I also really appreciate that Wayne not going for Wayne’s World again after Komander had already blocked it, and instead utilizing another finisher earned him the victory. I understand that they want Wayne to spend the BOSJ tour with this title around his waist (Yuta went as Pure champion in 2022), but it would’ve been nice for the conclusion of Komander’s title reign not to feel so sudden. ***½
ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championship Match
Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs (Marshall von Erich & Ross von Erich) vs. Johnny TV & MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden)
ROH on HonorClub #112 – Springfield, MA – 4.18.2025
Rhodes and the Von Erich’s have been champions since 7.27.2024 and this is their third defense. This is their first defense in over eight months. Part of that is due to an injury, but a big part of that is nobody giving a crap about these titles. MxM and TV lost to Dustin, Sammy Guevara, and Willie Mack in a six man tag last month, but after the match, they stole Dustin’s six man tag team title. The Von Erichs were offended by this, and challenged MxM and TV to a title match last week so that they could beat some respect into them. Taya Valkyrie is in the challengers corner.
The challengers attack the champions during their entrance. They bring Ross into the ring, who tells referee Mike Posey he’s good to go despite the attack. While Marshall helps his brother take down TV and Mansoor, the challengers eventually get Ross back isolated in their corner. They also beat down Rhodes during the process when it looks like he may join the fray. Marshall gets the crowd going to fire up Ross, who escapes an abdominal stretch from Mansoor. As they both recover from a double clothesline, Madden pulls Marshall off of the apron and sends him crashing into the ring steps. Rhodes recovers just as Ross has backdropped Mansoor. He gets the tag and powerslams TV and Mansoor. The Von Erichs dropkick Madden to the floor when he enters the ring. Rhodes bulldogs TV and Mansoor breaks up his pin just in time. Madden misses a corner boot and gets stuck, which allows for Rhodes to get him in place for the Unnatural kick. Rhodes then places TV on him as well and gives the kick to both men. He gives Mansoor a Destroyer and Ross puts the Claw on him. The Von Erichs have the MxM Collection in dual claws as Rhodes pins TV with the Final Reckoning for the pin at 11:12. I liked that this was different in structure than most title defenses. It was wrestled very competently, with an especially good performance from the Von Erichs. It had a little bit of levity but never felt outright comedic. I do not like that the large gap in time between title defenses went unmentioned and was not justified in any way. I don’t anticipate seeing these titles defended before ROH is back in Texas in July. ***
ROH World Championship
Bandido vs. Dralistico
AEW Collision #90; Playoff Palooza – New Orleans, LA – 4.26.2025
Bandido has been champion since 4.6.2025 and this is his first defense. Dralistico didn’t earn this title match and nobody even pretended to try to justify it. Interestingly enough, Bandido won his first ROH World title by defeating Dralistico’s brother RUSH at Best In The World 2021. Dralistico takes the quick opening exchange by landing on Bandido with a tope con hilo on the floor. Bandido, however, sends Dralistico back first into the guardrails before they fight on the ring apron for control. Dralistico ends up snapping off a Frankensteiner, sending both men back to the floor. He chokes Bandido on the middle rope while digging his fingers into Bandido’s eye ports. Bandido ends a strike exchange by sending Dralistico outside with a single-footed dropkick and following with a suicide dive and Fosbury Flop. He gets two with a frog splash back in the ring. Dralistico ducks a strike and cracks Bandido with a tornado enzuigiri for two. Bandido rolls Dralistico up onto his shoulders to counter the pin at the end of La Mistica. Dralistico comes back with a crucifix driver, only for Bandido to use the momentum to penalty kick Dralistico before collapsing. They end up fighting to the top turnbuckle where Dralistico brings down Bandido with a Frankensteiner to counter a super powerbomb. Dralistico then hits a flying lungblower for two. Dralistico charges at Bandido, and Bandido uses his momentum to Gallon Throw Dralistico into the corner. Bandido then delivers the 21 Plex for the pin at 11:22. This was pretty much a match to see who could out lucha one another. They did stuff, Bandido caught Dralistico with his finish, and that was that. Dralistico is good, but for whatever reason, he and Bandido just do not mesh well together. This was serviceable and had some impressive wrestling but didn’t feel “whole.” ***
Renee Paquette interviewed Nick Wayne and the rest of the Patriarchy on the April 30th AEW Dynamite. Renee asks Nick what it will mean to him to represent ROH in Japan. Just as Christian interrupts Nick before he can speak, Jay Lethal interrupts Christian. Lethal says he is impressed with Wayne, but that Wayne still has a lot to learn and a lot to prove. He says Wayne can prove something tonight. Lethal says he is the longest reigning ROH World Television champion, and challenges Wayne, the youngest ROH World Television champion, to a title match later tonight. Wayne isn’t sure, saying he isn’t warmed up, but Christian accepts on his behalf. Christian tells Wayne if he wants to be a champion, he needs to get his head in the game.
ROH World Television Championship
Nick Wayne vs. Jay Lethal
AEW Dynamite #291 – Norfolk, VA – 4.30.2025
Nick Wayne has been champion since 4.17.2025 and this is his first defense. Christian Cage, Shayne Wayne and Kip Sabian of the Patriarchy are in Wayne’s corner. Lethal stays one step ahead of the champion until he lands a suicide dive. After Wayne absorbs it, he snaps off a Frankensteiner on the floor. He sends Lethal shoulder first into the ring steps. Wayne keeps on top of Lethal during picture in picture until he tries a sleeper hold. Lethal then backdrops his way free. Wayne however digs his fingers into Lethal’s eyes and then stomps him down in the corner. Wayne forcefully sends Lethal back first into the corner a few times. Lethal goes for a few desperation pins when he finds an opening to no avail. He also gets two with the Lethal Combination. Wayne is able to counter Hail To The King into a pin attempt for two, and also counters the figure four and Lethal Combination into pin attempts. Wayne goes back to the eyes to get off of Lethal’s shoulders. He sends him face first into the middle turnbuckle, cracks him with a roundhouse kick to the head, and puts him down with the Prodigy Plex for the pin at 9:17. The story of Lethal getting desperate while Wayne wore down his shoulder was sound and had a nice pay off, but nobody was interested in this last minute card addition. Picture-in-picture gobbling most of the match up also sucked. It’s a shame, because with some actual build behind it, I think a title match between these two could have been interesting. **½
It feels wrong to say that in a period where the ROH World Title and TV titles changed hands that it was a weak couple of months for matches, but that is certainly the case with March and April. Really, I’d only recommend watching Wayne’s title win over Komander. I shudder to think what Supercard of Honor would have looked like had it remained on May 2nd
I’ll be back in early July covering May, June, and anything going on right before All In weekend in a “Road to Supercard of Honor 2025” post.
